John 7:17-18 KJV
If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. [18] He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
Many profess to know Yeshua and to have a relationship with Him. Only those who hate the truth shall be given up to errors which will be fatal. Surely it was as agreeable to the design of the sabbath to restore health to the afflicted, as to administer an outward rite.
Jesus told them to decide on his conduct according to the spiritual import of the Divine law. We must not judge concerning any by their outward appearance, but by their worth, and by the gifts and graces of God’s Spirit in them.
I ponder how many are walking in the same mindset as the Israelites did. The Jews considered that eternal life was revealed to them in their Scriptures, and that they had it, because they had the word of God in their hands.
Jesus urged them to search those Scriptures with more diligence and attention “Ye do search the Scriptures,” and ye do well to do so. They did indeed search the Scriptures, but it was with a view to their own glory. It is possible for men to be very studious in the letter of the Scriptures, yet to be strangers to its power.
Observe Christ’s disregard of the applause of men those who are dead to the praises of men can bear their contempt. God will seek the honour of all who do not seek their own.
