Exodus 20:8 KJV
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Interesting question, how do you spend your day with God and His Son Yeshua?

That question came to me from an acquaintance recently acquired in China. At first in my mind I wondered, how do I spend my time? Now, please note this question was being asked from a secular perspective.

However, I pondered it from the spiritual side of my life as I no longer see myself as a part of this world, now being distinct in God’s eyes. http://romboughrobert.com/2022/03/06/video-on-living-as-a-distinct-believer-august-18-2021-8/

The question then became, “How much time do I spend with Yahweh and Yeshua during the Lord’s Day.

The next question was what Yahweh meant when He declared in Exodus 20:8 KJV
Remember the sabbath day
to keep it holy.

So, at first, I thought thank you for creating some fresh research! Then it hit me, as I received a light tap on the shoulder from the Holy Spirit. Showing, maybe you need to define what the Father in heaven meant by sayingkeep it Holy”?

That last question roared loudly in my mind. What did God mean by keeping it Holy? As I recognize and understand, there is no in-between when God speaks a command, and He certainly spoke it here, “Keeping it Holy!”

I called out to the Lord where do I begin? My research took me to Exodus 20:10 KJV
But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it, thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

This verse laid it out plain; however, I wanted more detail and went to the commentary of Matthew Henry, which, made it quite clear what Yahweh was saying in His command. The form of the fourth commandment, “Remember,” shows that it was not now first given but was known by the people before. One day in seven is to be kept holy. Six days are allotted to worldly business, but not so as to neglect the service of God, and the care of our souls. On those days we must do all our work, and leave none to be done on the sabbath day. Christ allowed works of necessity, charity, and piety; for the sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath, Mark 2:27; but all works of luxury, vanity, or self-indulgence in any form, are forbidden. Trading, paying wages, settling accounts, writing letters of business, worldly studies, trifling visits, journeys, or light conversation, are not keeping this day holy to the Lord..

It was through those words of what God was saying. Which brought the following to stand out for me to recognize multitudes are ignoring these points today.

But all works of luxury, vanity, or self-indulgence in any form are forbidden.

Does that mean my one or one and half hours of worshipping each Sunday isn’t going to cut it? You’re saying I can’t rush home or to a stadium to partake in a sports event. Or attend a movie or professional theatrical event. Or spend the rest of my day shopping for clothing and such?

I believe the multitudes will be asking this question, why; then why isn’t my sacrifice of one or one and a half hours of worship enough?

Remember we are defining what God meant when he commanded “Keep it Holy”!

Again, I turned to Matthew Henry’s commentary to Genesis 2:1-3 After six days, God ceased from all works of creation. In miracles, he has overruled nature but never changed its settled course or added to it. God did not rest as one weary but as one well pleased. Notice the beginning of the kingdom of grace, sanctifying or keeping holy, of the sabbath day. The solemn observing of one day in seven as a day of holy rest and holy work, to God’s honour, is the duty of all to whom God has made known his holy sabbaths.

Here is what I have discerned from this research on how to spend your time with God and His Son Yeshua.

Since I conducted this research, the following is how I now spend my Lord’s Day. My Sundays, the Lord’s Day (the day I observe as the Sabbath and consider the seventh day), is in prayer and meditation all day. This now gives me a day alone with Him. So, I can marvel at his great love and compassion for me, being so insignificant within his creations yet so important to Him. This is my time, to praise and, in humility, share my love, respect and full gratitude for God and Yeshua for what they have provided as gifts, guidance and protection over these last six days.

Now, with a strengthened spirit and nutured soul, I am prepared to receive guidance to discern and understand God’s calling of what He desires of me during the coming week. It is a very peaceful time, a very private togetherness deepening my love for Him making my life easy to dedicate as service in His will. Knowing each Sabbath, we will be together fulfilling His command of “Keeping it Holy!”

Blessings to All, keeping this in mind. No greater love can a man demonstrate than to tell a truth which may offend some but save the souls of others who have an ear to hear an eye to see, and the wisdom to get past their pride and ego to do the right thing by obeying God’s command by KEEPING IT HOLY!”
