Matthew 10:40 KJV
He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me
Exodus 20:8
[8] Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
The form of the Third commandment, “Remember,” shows that it was not now first given, but was known by the people before. One day in seven is to be kept holy. Six days are allotted to worldly business, but not to neglect “the service of God and the care of our souls.”
On those days we must do all our work and leave none to be done on the sabbath day. Christ allowed works of necessity, charity, and piety; for the sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath, Mark 2:27; but all works of luxury, vanity, or self-indulgence in any form, are forbidden. Trading, paying wages, settling accounts, writing letters of business, worldly studies, trifling visits, journeys, or light conversation, are not keeping this day holy to the Lord.
Sloth and indolence may be carnal, but not a holy rest. The sabbath of the Lord should be a day of rest from worldly labour and rest in the service of God. The advantages of keeping this holy day were it only for the health and happiness of mankind, with the time it affords to take care of the soul, shows the excellency of this commandment.
The day is blessed; men are blessed by it and in it. The blessing and direction to keep holy are not limited to the seventh day but are spoken on the sabbath day.
The original reason for hallowing the sabbath, taken from God’s resting from the work of creation on the seventh day, is not here mentioned. Though this ever remains in force, it is not the only reason. Here it is taken from Israel’s deliverance out of Egypt; for that was typical of our redemption by Jesus Christ, in remembrance of which the Christian sabbath was to be observed. In the resurrection of Christ, we were brought into the glorious liberty of the children of God, with a mighty hand, and an outstretched arm. How sweet is it to a soul truly distressed under the terrors of a broken law, to hear the mild and soul-reviving language of the gospel!
That thought process was echoed resoundingly, by my spiritual brother ‘Bob Woodward,’ who shared this fare at our spiritual breakfast table for all who attended to partake: “Good morning from Strafford Mo. The temperature is forty-nine and the forecast high is fifty-six. … A good sermon yesterday in church, kinda like a good breakfast to start the day.
Is it not amazing how much more energy you have when you pause to receive nourishment? Food for our body and for our soul are both important, but when we starve the soul, the body loses purpose. We were created to be the Temple of the living God, for His Spirit to live within us, taking in spiritual nourishment is essential in the keeping of the Temple, our soul… Father, we thank God for the soul Food you have freely given, bless us to be receptive to your word that we may prove your faithfulness. In Jesus’ name
Amen
The following was what the Holy Spirit brought forward, both in answer to the initial question “WHY IS A DAY OF REST NECESSARY?” The Pastor in his descriptive way brought forward what the assembling of the Ecclesia truly is about. As we gather to raise praise and our heartfelt thank you for what the Lord has provided this past week, the Pastor reveals a huge spiritual dining room where we are all gathered and sitting at the Lord’s table sharing in the spiritual fare the Lord is offering. We personally and spiritually will retain what is necessary for our souls and spirit to be nourished from that offering.
My response as I share what was revealed to me which I desire to share as to how I explain “WHY IS A DAY OF REST NECESSARY?” Holy will the residence of the Holy Spirit be. What condition are you presenting the Holy Spirit as an abode knowing our body is a temple being presented for the presence of the Holy Spirit to share in the nurturing of our soul and spirit. What condition is the TEMPLE you’re presenting? Blessings Man of God I enjoyed sharing this meal with you today, please keep me on your dining list for future spiritual fare, as my soul and spirit are filled to overflowing. Blessings.
If you discern what has been shared here it becomes easy to recognize how important it is to be in attendance at the Lord’s table, daily, not just once a week. However, it becomes clear the additional importance for believers to remove themselves from their worldly tasks and spend one day receiving the lord’s fare for our soul and spirit, as well to spend the rest of that day lifting our praise and prayers of thanks, as we meditate and sojourn in God’s presence.
Mark 2:27; but all works of luxury, vanity, or self-indulgence in any form, are forbidden. Trading, paying wages, settling accounts, writing letters of business, worldly studies, trifling visits, journeys, or light conversation, are not keeping this day holy to the Lord.
The purpose of these messages on extrapolating the Ten Commandments is to uncover how Satan uses our ignorance of God’s Laws against us, so successfully. When you discern Mark 2:27 it becomes apparent how it is so easy for Satan as many believe once they have attended the Lord’s table received the fare they have the rest of the day, to do without consequence, what is revealed in Matthew 12:8
[8]For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.
Those labours are lawful on the sabbath day which are necessary, and sabbath rest is to froward, not to hinder sabbath worship. Needful provision for health and food is to be made; but when servants are kept at home, and families become a scene of hurry and confusion on the Lord’s day, to furnish a feast for visitors, or for indulgence, the case is very different. Such things as these, and many others common among professors, are to be blamed.
Being in the cornfields, the disciples began to pluck the ears of corn: the law of God allowed it, Deuteronomy 23:25. This was a slender provision for Christ and his disciples, but they were content with it. The Pharisees did not quarrel with them for taking another man’s corn, but for doing it on the sabbath day
The resting on the sabbath was ordained for man’s good, Deuteronomy 5:14. No law must be understood so as to contradict its end. And as Christ is the Lord of the sabbath, it is fit the day and the work of it should be dedicated to him.
The word of God will be the death either of the sin or of the sinner. God desired mercy rather than sacrifice, and that knowledge of him produces holy fear and love. This exposes the folly of those who trust in outward observances, to make up for their want of love to God and man.
Here is an example of how Satan has men breaking the commandments with one action! After having attended the weekly service and partaking and receiving fare for his soul and spirit, I will call “Rob,” he is a fan of his local city’s hockey team, who were scheduled to play a game starting in the early evening of the sabbath.
This scenario is the fertile soil Satan plants his seeds of separation which become fruitful, by managing to have Rob break two commandments through his ignorance of God’s laws. Many will ask how by rationalizing Rob’s actions, by stating, he kept the Sabbath through attending the service in the early part of the day and receiving the teaching. Now, here is justification of that rational thought which will allow Rob to attend the game believing all is good and no sin has been committed.
I had several months earlier released an article warning the Ecclesia of this sort of sin now being identified as one of Satan’s tools drawing us ini sin and away from Yeshua known as a “Luxurious Sin!” It’s actions are identified in this article http://romboughrobert.com/2022/02/16/luxurious-sin-revealed-will-you-justify-it-or-vacate-it-3/
The answer to the rationale and justification, is available in Mark 2:27; but all works of luxury, vanity, or self-indulgence in any form, are forbidden. Trading, paying wages, settling accounts, writing letters of business, worldly studies, trifling visits, journeys, or light conversation, are not keeping this day holy to the Lord.
In discerning this verse, particular attention to works of self indulgence which as a legalistic Satan will use against us in this moment of ignorance to God’s Law. This action is the basis of our breaking a second commandment.
In our earlier release we were shown there are many different forms of idolatry and here in our ignorance of God’s laws we see Rob breaking a second commandment by having an idol before God. In his actions of setting his time aside and attending his favorite teams game on the Sabbath, the team became more important than God, as we on the Sabbath should honour our Father in heaven through prayer, meditation and spending time with Yeshua scripturally to fully appreciate his diet within our relationship. Not partaking in self indulgence by rationalizing and justifying it, by accepting Satan’s lie, you fulfilled your obligation by attending church earlier today, so the rest of the day is yours to enjoy.
I ponder how many walks and relationships this information has touched. And I know it is many, so here is a solution for those who may want to use modern technology to continue abiding in the Lord. However, it must be in a strict mode of entertainment and not idolatry towards the team in any way. You know the teams schedule and that it is broadcast on TV, schedule your PVR, to record the game and watch it on Monday, so you can dedicate yourself to the Sabbath fully.
I could go on and on, but it would be like beating a dead horse. I pray the point has been revealed and noted how easy it is for Satan to use his legalism, lies, and deceptions to draw us into separation from our Father in heaven through ignorance of God’s laws and our eventual actions to rationalize and justify them.
Note: sin will separate us and draw us away from learning and deepening our walk and relationship, however, our ability to restore our position with the Father in heaven is called, “having knowledge,” to recognize our sin, and with a repentant heart exercise that knowledge by placing it before God asking for His forgiveness that is why we live under God’s grace, it doesn’t give us a license to sin; but if we are duped by Satan, a doorway to return into God’s hands.
Once we have this knowledge we should be applying it, as we assess our walks, daily discovering all the other lies, we have swallowed.
Does that mean we live under the law “no,” however, it gives us the foundation to accept and use Yahweh’s “Ten Commandments” and the minor laws of the Torah, in our daily walk? We need them as a solid foundation to expand Yeshua’s more profound teachings.
To answer the types of the law thus as Bishop Tillotson expresses it, “he did not make void but make good, the ceremonial law, and manifested himself to be the Substance of all those shadows, to fill up the defects of it, and so to complete and perfect it.” To me, “the Old Testament is the skeleton of the body of Yeshua’s church and the New Testament is the flesh on the bones to fill out that body, without both we have absolutely nothing.”
